Westfall’s founder and chief winemaker, Dr. Georgene Mortimer began the art of winemaking by growing up in a house where home winemaking was a multigenerational family activity.  Georgene and Loren Mortimer first began their passion for winemaking together back in 1981 while attending Ithaca College in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State (famous for its wines).  While finishing their education at Ithaca and continuing until present, Loren and Georgene took their winemaking knowledge to the next level, by attending seminars and taking wine making courses and of course always perfecting their various batches of homemade wine.

Finally in 2001, Loren and Georgene decided again to take their passion to another level by opening The Wine Experience at Westfall Farm.  The Wine Experience at Westfall Farm is a home winemaking school, where wine enthusiasts come and make their own barrels of wine using the equipment and expertise offered by Loren and Georgene.  All  wines entered into home winemaking contests won awards ranging from  best of show and several gold, silver and bronze medals.

With Farmland preservation being such an important issue in New Jersey, the next logical step was to plant 4 acres of grapevines and form Westfall Winery on the 326 acre family owned farm in Montague, New Jersey.  Westfall Winery prides itself in making fine hand crafted wines from the best fruits available.  Westfall Winery has  won many awards in professional wine competitions since its inception in 2001 including Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals and Best of Show. A national wine enthusiast (Weekend Winery) choose Westfall Sangiovese as June 2005 Wine Of The Month.

In 2005, Westfall Winery had produced over 5000 cases of premium quality wine . Also, Loren and Georgene expanded their operation and opened Island Winery, on Hilton Head Island,SC.
